This paper contributes to the academic debate concerning the relationship between economic evaluations and voting decisions in Mexico, focusing on the period from 2000 to 2009. It generates a latent variable representing subjective perceptions of the economy (SPE) composed of six individual subjective economic evaluations, and investigates how this latent variable, along with individual employment status and concerns about future employment, affects voting behavior. Additionally, it correlates SPE with objective economic indicators such as GDP growth, inflation, and unemployment, demonstrating the influences of both subjective and objective economic conditions on voting preferences.
